Practice Areas
Sumit’s practice at the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court has been built around dispute resolution and civil and commercial litigation. Over the years, he has developed a reputation for handling matters that are procedurally complex, commercially sensitive and strategically demanding.
His work spans across constitutional writ petitions, contractual disputes, corporate and commercial disputes, property litigation, recovery actions, matrimonial and family disputes. There are cases where the divergence between legal theory and courtroom reality is often significant. It is within that space that his experience becomes decisive. Having appeared in numerous contested and high value matters, he brings a calibrated approach to litigation strategy, knowing when to press a point and when to resolve a dispute with commercial pragmatism.
His grounding in mediation is not incidental to his practice. It informs how he structures disputes from inception. He is an accredited Mediator with the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, Samadhan, and has completed advanced training in mediation at Pepperdine University, California. His exposure to structured negotiation and interest based resolution techniques strengthens both his advisory and courtroom strategy.
Mr. Chander has also been appointed as an Arbitrator in commercial matters by the Delhi High Court several times. This adjudicatory role gives him a dual vantage point. He understands not only how cases are argued, but how they are evaluated and decided. That perspective materially shapes how he prepares pleadings, frames issues and presents evidence.
His public interest litigation has had institutional impact. Notably, he has been involved in proceedings that contributed to the expansion of Fast Track Courts and Commercial Courts in Delhi, reinforcing judicial capacity in high volume and high value matters. Such work reflects a practice that extends beyond private disputes to systemic reform.
He has represented government authorities as well as private individuals and corporate entities in significant litigation. His appearances as a legal expert on leading national news platforms further demonstrate the depth of his engagement with contemporary legal and constitutional questions.
As Senior Legal Advisor to Truce Legal, Mr. Chander brings strategic oversight, courtroom depth and dispute resolution insight that strengthens the firm’s advisory and contentious practice at the highest levels.
